Satellite monitoring of mining activity
TerraView Resources
Near-real-time satellite imagery over a large concession — which sites are active, which are growing, and which appear where they should not, each with a place and a date attached.
TerraView needed to know what was happening on the ground across a large concession — which sites were active, which were growing, and which were appearing where they should not. Field surveys covered a fraction of the area and took weeks to repeat.
We built a geospatial pipeline that ingests near-real-time satellite imagery, runs segmentation models over it, and reports changes with a place and a date attached. The output is not a heatmap; it is a list of sites, their locations and what changed between passes.
The monitoring now runs continuously. New activity is flagged within days of it appearing on the ground, and the reports replace much of the survey work that used to go out to the field.
